Please find below the list of grants and funding opportunities from a range of organisations that may be of interest to farmers in Ireland. We have only listed the grants that are currently active and for which applications are still being accepted. Teagasc provides objective and independent advisory services to all private landowners on forestry related matters. Your local forestry adviser will be able to provide you with free, independent and objective advice on any technical or financial aspect you may have regarding forestry. The following grants are currently open:


To fund the establishment of a ‘conventional’ forest with the main objective to produce commercial timber. There can of course be other additional objectives also.

The Native Woodland Establishment Scheme (NWS Est.) supports the establishment of new native woodlands on 'green field' sites.

Forestry for Fibre

The objective of this measure is meet a forecasted supply-demand gap for fibre for energy and other wood product applications by growing multiple crop rotations on a 10 to 15 year cycle with wood biomass yields in the region of 150-300 m3/ha.

Seed Stand and Seed Orchard Scheme

The Forest Genetic Resources Reproductive Material measure of the Forestry Programme 2014-2020 aims to support the conservation and development of Ireland’s forest genetic resource. This will be achieved through the Seed Stand and Seed Orchard Scheme.

Forest Road Scheme

This scheme provides funding for the construction of forest roads and associated infrastructure such as bell-mouths, turn-tables, drains, culverts and bridges.

Woodland Improvement Scheme

This scheme provides financial support to forest owners towards the cost of woodland improvement works associated with tending and thinning of broadleaf forests planted post-1980 under grant aided afforestation schemes.

Forest Reconstitution Scheme (Chalara Ash Dieback) 2014-2020

The Reconstitution Scheme (Chalara) supports the reconstitution of Ash plantations which have suffered from or are associated with Ash Dieback disease caused by the fungus Hymenoscyphus fraxineus.

An organic farming scheme which aims to deliver enhanced environmental and animal welfare benefits and to encourage producers to respond to the market demand for organically produced food.

Green, Low-Carbon, Agri-Environment Scheme (GLAS)

It preserves traditional hay meadows and low-input pastures; is low-carbon as it retains the carbon stocks in soil through margins, habitat preservation and practices such as minimum tillage; and, agri- environment as it promotes agricultural actions, which introduce or continue to apply agricultural production methods compatible with the protection of the environment, water quality, the landscape and its features, endangered species of flora and fauna and climate change mitigation.

Knowledge Transfer Programme consists of support for Knowledge Transfer Groups across the Beef, Sheep, Dairy, Poultry, Tillage and Equine sectors.

Aims to lower the intensity of GHG emissions and improve the genetic merit of the national beef herd.

Areas of Natural Constraints Scheme

Areas of Natural Constraints Scheme replaces the Disadvantaged Areas Scheme under the new Rural Development Programme 2014 - 2020. The Scheme is co-funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD).
